Thors Helmet 6:15 hours

I took this over the Christmas/New Years period but have had it sitting around until I was happy with the processing.

HaLRGB 6 hours 15 minutes.

TEC180FL, FLI Microline 8300, Astronomik filters.

Great image Greg. Nice colour and smoothness.

Tip: If you're putting it up for public viewing then a "Helmut" is an angry dog, whereas "Helmet" is what the Vikings wore.

I can't believe I mispelt it - that's hilarious

Unfortunately I can't edit the title of the thread.

Thanks Leon.

The main problem I had was the stars were very dominating in the original result. This is also a crop - maybe 60% so its zoomed in as well.

Greg.

Hi Greg,
What a lovely rendition, love the delicate detail you have captured.

As you have mentioned, this region is dominated by the density of the star field but your image is deep enough to really do justice to the very fine filaments of ionized gas that appear close to the central Wolf Rayet star which is the source of excitation.

I really love this image, top job.

Regards
Trevor

That's an extraordinary picture.
Excellent work.

When I showed your image to my family, they pointed out to me something within the picture.
In this crop, can you see the profile of a Koala facing to the right?

Thanks Trevor.

It is a beautiful if faint object. I didn't want to rush it as I knew it was faint. It comes out fairly well in Ha though.

Greg.

wow what a fantastic image - with so much detail within it and so much of the extents shown around it it looks a little like the running logo from the Beijing Olympics

Lovely detailed captured Greg.

Greg, have you considered that the image might be a little on the red side? I noted that all the stars appear to be white. I think that there is a red giant in this field. Probably wrong, but just thought I would ask.

Excellent job Greg, the detail in the main nabula is beautiful and subtle, nicely framed too, did you crop much..?

Jeanette, I see the Koala face too, very obvious, in fact it should be called the Koala Nebula!

Mike
