Comment on a vendor

the good must come with the bad. l rang Bintel (Sydney) from Melbourne yesterday at approx 2.30pm and ordered a couple of things mentioning that it would be good to have the stuff by Friday.
lt arrived at my place at 9.00am this morning, now that is service.
Sometimes the vendors get a verbal flogging on the forums but this time it's a big thank you so if any of the guys from Bintel are on this forum, again well done.

Purely out of interest, why didn't you ring the Melbourne store? If they don't have something in stock in Melbourne, they'll get it shipped out of Sydney anyway. Just curious...

I have dealt with Bintel (Sydney) myself, and must say the service has been exceptional on all occasions.

I think they like to do business.

Yep - another positive thumbs up from me too. Even trivial items I've ordered from the Sydney store have turned up at my place early the next morning. Brilliant!

I like going in though. It's great to have a yarn - and all three gents are more than happy to engage in one. The danger is in not being able to leave! LOL! Great blokes.

Oh the warm feelings.....perhaps we should hold hands and hug a tree....

....yes, I have had nothing but absolutely superb service from Bintel over the years. They are prompt and courteous, and have a great memory for past sales to me - I always feel that they are interested in me, rather than just my wallet. And from time to time, they have convinced me not to purchase something, which I think is fine testimony indeed.

Indeed. "How's the "xxxxxxx" going?" is always asked.

Ditto to what's been said about Bintel, and on one ocassion their advice saved me wasting a lot of money on equipment which appeared to be good but would have turned out to be a lemon :-)
cheers!

Yeh have to agree,

Living out here in Broken Hill means that all of my astro gear has a long way to travel. Have got a lot of gear over the years from Bintel and have always had prompt delivery. Ran into Don, Micheal and Mike at the SPSP many years ago. They are all very experienced observers, use the gear they sell and offer pertinent advice on astro gear.

I don't get to Sydney very often, it's over 1,000 klm, but when I do I drop in to see the boys. Always look forward to catching up face to face.

My two bobs worth.

Regards
Trevor

Hi Trevor,

Thanks for the post.

With regards Don Whiteman in particular, I would personally regard him as one of the
most experienced observers that you are likely to find anywhere on the planet
and is a highly accomplished telescope maker and master telescope technician.

Many of us know Don, but for those online who have not had the opportunity
to meet him personally or aware of his background, the following may
be of interest.

Don is totally "keyed-into" the world of amateur astronomy and has a dizzying
long-list of friends and colleagues in that community both here in Australia and
elsewhere in the world.

Talented in his own right, Don also received formal training and worked at the
Meade and Celestron plants in Los Angeles. It is always interesting to talk
to Don about his occasional sojourns to New Calendonia where just about the
whole astronomical community there turn out to have their scopes serviced by him,
many requiring it owing to the high humidity and mildew.

Don is also a former President of the Astronomical Society of New South
Wales and the current Society Editor. He is one of those grass roots
movers-and-shakers that occur in clubs where you find nearly all of the
hard work is actually done by just a small handful of people, thus making events
like star parties possible.

Mai and I have a lot of time for Don and fondly regard him as a friend.

Best Regards

Gary Kopff
