if you mean like two computers joined in a mini network ... then yes

easiest way is with a crossover cable, asigning a static IP address to each on the same subnet

have a google on it, and come back if you have any question, and i will try and help

Apart from the networking part of the process, you will need to think about sharing of drives / directories. From Explorer, right click on the drive / directory you want to share and the pop up menu should have an option like "Sharing and security".

Believe me I am in no way an expert on PC's.

I have 2 desktops and a laptop networked sharing broadband internet.

I have the broadband modem connected to a router, then the desktops wired to the router and the laptop joining wirelessly.
I have shared all folders and printers. (need to upgarde to a router with a print server in the future)

Windows will take you through a process of making a local area network - giving each computer a name etc
If I can do it, just about anybody can.

You could always use the internal windows facility for Remote Access of the computer.
i.e. Log onto computer 1 from computer 2, and be able to view and use everything on computer 1 as if you were sitting at the keyboard of computer 1 while at the keyboard of computer 2.

With two computers no, you can set up share folders and then map them to drive letters using the same letter (say E on both computer then on both computers it would look like it was the same drive. But both computers need to be on at the same time and it matters which one you switch on first.

If however what you really mean is so that the two computers are independant of each other then the only way is to have three devices. It used to be that the shared device needed to be a computer server but these days you can get stand alone network drives. You will also need a network hub (switch) though.
