I recently returned from a couple of weeks visiting family in Hobart, and had the chance to do an eco-cruise to Cape Huay, Cape Pillar and Tasman Island (East of Port Arthur on the Tasman Peninsula in SE Tas). I highly recommend it to anyone heading down that way! Took a few hundred photos, and have included a selection of them here. Cape Pillar has the highest sea cliffs in the southern hemisphere (300m high), and this area is arguably the best bit of coastline in Australia. Lots of wildlife, including Shy Albatross and hundreds of Australian Fur Seals, as shown in these photos.
Thanks for the comments everyone. It certainly is a spectacular part of the world. I had done the bushwalk to Cape Pillar years ago (which is also great, but not if you're afraid of heights, as it skirts the very edge of the cliffs for several km!), but seeing it from sea level provides a very different perspective and lets you get much closer to the marine life there.
Hey, Steven, nice photos. I live in Tas, now, and I've paddled there, but I didn't know that there was a local tour operator who went there. Which mob is that?
Brian, the tour company is just called "Tasman Island Cruises" I think. Run by the same people that operate the Adventure Bay-Cape Bruny eco-cruise (which I haven't yet done). Paddling around that area must be a great experience!
