Slack Service
I ordered items from 2 online stores on the 28th December.
One was in Hong Kong and the other in Sydney.
Now can you guess which order arrived first?
I rang the Sydney store last Monday, a week ago, and they confirmed that the payment had cleared and the items were in stock, but still nothing has arrived in the mail.
How long should one wait before starting to jump up and down?

Yep.
We've had all sorts of dramas ordering on-line and over the phone here in Bris.
I buy most of my stuff OS these days because of the 'issues'.
Sad but true.

I know the feeling, I ordered a couple of LCD screen protectors from Honkers on ebay Sunday, by this morning I had confirmation the items had been despatched.

Sadly, it does seem standard practice these days; having to contact the supplier and growl at them a little to get your product delivered in a reasonable time frame.
Cheers

I bought the items specifically from an Australian store because I wanted them to be covered by a usable warranty.

I have ordered a camera from an online company, after three emails pleading for a reply to my first email re said camera, I got a reply back today informing me the camera is not in stock, but I can have another model for another $175:00 right away or I will have to wait till the other comes in, and they don't know when that will be.

Well, I ordered something at 4pm from a well known Sydney store and it was on the front door 8am next day, try getting that service online from honkers. Not that it needs to be that quick, and I dont intent to start the whole hory subject again, but it depends on the store, not the country methinks.

Yeah... I order 90% of everything I buy from Myastroshop, granted, its in Queensland and so am I, but I've had orders where I've called Steve at 9am to order and recieved item at before 3pm... longest its taken was 19 hours because I ordered late afternoon.....
Ordering from a few other online stores in nsw/vic I've waited a while... its because they know you're not going to barge in the front door and personally repremand them... worst you can do to them is a few nasty phone calls or a scathing email... and even then, they have this nice little delete button that makes you go away... Theres nothing like personal service, when you walk into a shop and buy. although not always convenient, its the best way to go...
I've found at times ordering from HK or USA faster than posting an item interstate... Thats ridiculous... I had 1.3kgs posted to me from Arizona 6 days ago, on the same day I posted an item to the Northern Territory, The parcel from Arizona got to me before my parcel made it to the NT...
Go figure that.

OOOOOOh yeah, I should, now prompted mention that a well known PME/Losmandy/SBIG et al Sydney dealer fixed my G11 next day, AND on a weekend, at a more than reasonable price. Get THAT service from an online Honkers dealer .
Not to say that fast is alwys possible, even locally, but on this occassion it stunned me to put it mildly, you get what you pay for, but again, it depends on the "shop".
One things for sure though, after you have bought it, no matter how good the price or delivery speed from overseas, actual physical fixing type support is a pain. And that can really count.

I agree with Peter & Fred on that... Something from hong kong might be cheaper, until something goes belly up and you need to send it back... postage costs, wait times, difficulty communicating the problem you're having to someone who knows little english other than "I do good price. You get FA warranty" etc...
Buying local may seem more expensive, but in the long run its definitely worth while..
Alex.

That is exactly why I bought the power adaptors from an Aussie store.
I'd just like to take possession of the darned thing before the warranty runs out.

Well, I contacted the company this morning, and they will be dispatching the goods today or tomorrow.
One hopes that they do, or else.....
