Hello from a new member

Hi guys.

just wanted to say hello, moved here 18 months ago from Glasgow, Scotland, know the Northern sky inside out and backwards, but struggling to find my feet here. Have a 200mm Reflector, and a nice 80mm Refractor.

Seems like this is a nice friendly place to post, and share interests with people.

clear skies

TGB

So you've taken the "low road" down under, TGB! Welcome! Forget the Northern hemisphere - nothing much to see up there! Now you can really start observing!

Thanks for the kind welcome everyone.

I must admit there is quite a difference between the Northern and Southern hemispheres, the North is more barren, but has brighter stars, and is much easier to navigate, with better constellation markers etc. And there are some nice DSO's seen from there that unfortunately cant be seen from here.

That said, the milky way in this part of the world is stunning, and there is a wealth of objects, i have no idea where to start !

polar alignment would be good ...

to I.I.S and Down under
We try to keep this sky just for us Southerners, so don't tell anyone else!!
Since you live in Canberra, I would suggest contacting the local society
http://www.mso.anu.edu.au/cas/ they will be very hands on to help with any problems.

Cheers, John.

Hi TGB and welcome to IIS, you'll have a great time here.

I saw a post from you on the forum of the Canberra Astronomical Society. I'll look forward to catching up with at one of the meetings and say Hi.

Cheers

Hi TGB

Welcome to IIS. Is there a Glen Tory near Glasgow?

I know of another Ice In Space Glaswegian (Ian Law) who moved to Brisbane from, well, Glasgow almost 2 years ago. Has there been a recent Aussie recruitment drive in Scotland? LOL!

Cheers

Dennis
