Last night I was showing someone my astrophotos and the question of whether or not the colours were "real" came up, so I went outside into the dark night, put the camera on the balcony rail and took a 15 sec exposure. The purpose was to show that even though things outside looked grey to our eyes, the camera still would reveal the true colours. Look what just happened to be in the centre of the frame, sitting still for the 15 sec!
