Observatorycam

I lashed out and got one of these

http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView...eMax=&SUBCATID=

It lets me see what the scope and mount are doing in the dark from inside as it has IR led's. It will also detect motion and email and ftp mages etc so it is a security device. Most IR led's have much longer wavelengths than what even the modded filter lets through. So they dont ruin imaging.

If you want to have a look go to http://avandonk.no-ip.org:3390 in internet explorer.

login is guest
password guest
then choose English

I have already had Ken test it from his place. I would be interested to know how it goes when more than one accesses the camera.

Bert

It works Bert. The image took around 10 secs to build in 4 steps. I'm on an 8mbps link to the net.

Hi Bert,

that is so cool!

I did something not quite as advanced as your setup.
I put a small PCB cam in the dome and fed it into the TV
card.
http://mywebsite.bigpond.com/astrosteve/livewebcam.jpg

It uploads a pic to my webpage at whatever interval I choose
if I am online and have the freeware FTP loader prog going.
Great little piece of software called AT32 Comedy webcam.
You can title overlay the pic .
Been a while since I ran it though...the pic is from May 08
edit: new pic from this morning

Thanks for sharing!

Steve

Works a treat for me Bert, FWIW I've opened it on 2 different machines at the same time, the clock is updating nicely (although that may be donw with a script) and I can see occasional changes in light, is it windy and a bit overcast over there?.

I have a netcomm cam that does similar things.

If you have a cheapy webcam and are in reach of your PC there is some open source webcam server software that works nicely as well, although it doesn't have the nice security/email options of the IP webcams.

I couldn't get any response at all, sorry to report. I tried repeatedly, kept getting a Page Load Error - network timeout message, server is taking too long to respond.

Works fine for me (daylight view) on Mac OSX (10.5) with Firefox 2.0.0.14 via ADSL ... took about 6 seconds to come up.

What a great idea, I might have to wait till next Christmas though.

Just bad timing on my part - yep, pleased to confirm it's fine from here too.

Great idea Bert, I love it! Already thinking of other applications for this around my place.

Sorry but I got a connection time out. Using Firefox under Ubuntu 8.10. I'm pretty sure it doesn't support ActiveX so that may be the problem.

Great stuff Bert, I'll have to look into one of them or similar when my Obs is finished.

It doesn't take very long to download onto my screen either an I'm on dialup.

cheers

Thanks for that turbo_pascale. That is quite a saving. I was thinking of getting a second camera.
