Portrait Avatars

Having just attended the IISAC, it was wonderful to catch up with some of the great people who participate in this forum.
It was great that everyone had name badges, so you knew who was who.
Still, it was sometimes a challenge to place faces to online names with real names. I know from talking to others at the camp I was not the only one who struggled with this.

If you are comfortable with putting your portrait photo up as your Avatar, it would be a great way to become known to other members.
As the saying goes "You never forget a face".

It's a good idea Ian, I noticed you changed your avatar.
I think you need to get a closer shot of yourself, it's still a little hard to see your face, even though I know what you look like, others still may not recognize you from this current avatar.
Do you have a closer shot of yourself?

I think Houghy's is a good example, he's instantly recognized right across the universe.

I must put up a new one...the beard is gone as is the shoulder lenght hair...I look very ordinary now such that shoppers approach me in shops asking where they can find this or that...even folk around here do not recognise me with the new image...

ONE day I will go to a star party someplace and I bet no one will recognise me... as I look so much younger and more handsm than any photo can show

Unless you suffer from Prosopagnosia or face blindness, namely the inability to recognise faces unless you see them lots of times. I can never remember what someone looks like if I meet them once (even over a dinner) and then don't see them again for 6 months or so. Most embarrassing when someone in the street greets you and they look like a complete stranger.

I was sitting in my Son's car when this old woman leaned in the driver side and said...

"how are you young man?"...

I knew she must know me and I must know her but I did not have a clue... then it dawned on me..it was my Son's mother...my first wife...I guess I did forget her after all.

yes I am - but at a cost - I had no idea who said hello to me and especially when Tania said who was that - she looked at me silly when I said I dunno
