Occultation of Antares 25 december

In the morning of Christmas day will happen an occultation of Antares in Asia. Very difficult to observe.

Wont be an occultation anywhere in Australia , the moon will pass close to Antares on'y. (about one lunar diameter from Antares at about 7:30pm NSW DST from Newcastle), does the same thing about a month later.)

The next Antares event that crosses Australian soil is on the 17th February 2009 (AM 18th). Oz East Coasters and Aucklanders might see the D in daylight but Sand Gropers will see the event just before dawn.

The spot to be is somewhere on a line from Kalgoorlie-Mt Magnet to observe the southern limb graze. I know of at least two observers travelling from Sydney and Canberra and also two travelling from the USA.

HooRoo.
