Daniel, the 18x90 cannot be handheld – at least not by me.
To mount on either a tripod or monopod a commonly available brass wood insert fitting (has both internal and external threads) is tightly screwed into the plastic plate. The fittings internal thread was selected so that it accepts a standard monopod/tripod mounting bolt.

Stunning effort. I admire anybody who plans and executes this sort of project. Must be tremendously satisfying. There are some amazing DIYers in the States.

But I have to giggle when I contemplate the hash I would make of it. Ten thumbs and inept at everything, you see.
