Why not wait and see how they perform first?
There may be problems with them, who knows.
Wait and see what others think of them.
Surely you can do with the gear you already have for now and try and improve with that.

No Alex the sooner they arrive the sooner you buy one so then we get a review,someones got to make a jump to see whether they are worth it or not and I couldn't pick a betetr candidate.

I did notice they still advertised on Andrews Communications website.

RB : True... This would be a good idea, but out of recent money I got from an insurance pay out, I have enough that was dedicated to astronomy to get one, and I figure, an RC for ~$2500 is pretty good value...

I will obviously wait for reviews of the GSO/AstroTech/Revelation 8" F/9 RC's but if said reviews say its a goer - I'll have one...

GSO/AT/Revelation are all the same scope judging by pics and marketing docs. only difference is that he AT one comes with a feather touch focuser standard... (I'll be fitting a moonlite to the GSO in any case)

Absolutely, good value, and I think a lot of people are eager to get their hands on one.
I just get nervous when new gear is released, obviously I don't like to see people disappointed.
I'm not implying you will be, far from it, but there have been cases where people have bought even high end RC's and they've had problems.

They've had focuser problems and are currently being ironed out.

I saw photographs taken with what I believe to be the 8" version. I'm not sure what camera was used to take them, but, man, it looks very, very promising. Flat field all the way across!

If you're interested, I'll chase it up and find out what configuration was used.

Bring on the Asian clones!

Humayun - I'd be interested to see the images, and also know how the imaging train was setup, and camera used..

I wonder if they'll be releasing a reducer for it to speed it up a bit..

Going by the published photos, I'd be waiting until the bugs are ironed out in these. Accuracy of the optic figure and concentricity of the the primary and secondary are critical. RCs are very demanding in this respect and in collimation and construction. I'd be very worried about the full length aluminium? dovetail rail in the photos - seems to negate the reason for the CF tube I doubt they would have an expansion joint system- I guess you could mount the tube via saddle rings to get around that.

This still makes a VC200L seem like a bargain even though the VCs are quite differentdifferent to a true RC. Criticism aside, there is certainly an opportunity for a more budget line of RC scopes in the market.
