Exclamation Positive Attitudes

Just a quick note to bring something to everyone's attention..

Over the past month or two, there's been an increasing trend in some negative attitudes and negative behaviour - mostly in the form of off-topic threads and posts that do nothing but to serve as a divisive tool to disrupt the community and bring a negative vibe to our normally happy and positive community.

This isn't on and won't be tolerated any more.

Let's focus on the positive aspects of astronomy and let's all contribute in meaningful and positive ways to this great, growing community.

Thanks

Combination of economic down turn and cloudy weather. Recipe for disaster for an astronomy community, but ... very true. People should support each other in times like this. We're lucky enough to have the same passion. Good for you to remind all and merry Xmas

I hear ya Mike , For just about every good thread i read all you have to do is scroll down the list then there it is the negativity.
I read on the Science Astrononomy page it says this is stricktly moderated with no off thread topics maybe this needs to be in place on the general disscusions as well.
Food for thought.
Cheers Kev.

Kev, the "General Chat" forum is the only place on IIS for off-topic type threads.. obviously it's preferred if there's a mix of astronomy and non-astronomy stuff there. It's certainly not an "anything goes" forum.

The off-topic type threads are ok in general, most of the time, as they're the ones that can help us get to know each other a bit more.

It's just when they focus too much on politics, religion, or negativity, whinging, complaining, that it starts getting people arguing with each other and bringing down the positive vibe, that we need to draw the line.

And just a reminder to everyone, if you do see any threads or posts that you think are of this nature please don't hesitate to use the "Report Bad Post" button.
This brings it to our attention earlier and believe me we do look into and take seriously all reports.

As moderators we value your input.

Cheers

Hi,

I haven't noticed you sounding negative Alex. I think Mike was referring to someone else (in fact I suspect everyone will probably be thinking that, I am too), so don't change.

I have replied to your thoughts with a diatribe or two, it is good fun

Cheers

I went around home and sawed the negative poles off all the batteries lying about the place.
Haven't had a very "positive"result, though.

Yay Iceman, thanks for this reminder. Its very offputting reading negative whingeing on this forum. Makes me consider using the ignore option to block some peoples comments. We should also remember that it is a public forum and that anyone can read what we post...it looks pretty bad for IIS when the impression given may be rather offensive!

Oh and Alex I do not percieve your conversation as negative or argumentative but rather interesting and thought provoking.
