OH NOOO another 253! but can`t help myself

Hi Folks,
I know another NGC 253 and another silver dollar! but I just can`t help myself in trying to ring out every photon from this marvelous galaxy. Also wan`t really happy with the last effort due to average seeing conditions, Also its well placed for a evening shot. Seeing was quiet good and everything went smoothly for the nearly 3 hours of data with the 20D. 28 x 6 min subs at iso 800 plus flats and darks made for a rather late night..
I tried to do minimal processing on this to try to give it the more natural feel to it but I did do some minor contrast enhancement on the galaxy itself. The rest of the image has only levels, curves and a little contrast and saturation followed by minor noise reduction. Still some noise visible but I like it as it is.
Easily my best effort of this galaxy to date...
Cropped and reduced to 80% original size for posting....
All comments most welcome!
cheers and CS Gary

Excellent image of 253 Gary!

I assume that was the 6" F5.6? So only some 800mm FL? Some great details visible aaaaand I like your crop orientation, looks very familar

Not sure what you mean by remaining noise??? it looks pretty smooth to me..? Probably too smooth even? There are most likely some faint details and background galaxies lost in your smoothing process..?

Great work, you do some of the best DSLR deep sky work around

Mike

Gary,

Wonderful, wonderful!

Love the work on the core, too.

It's images such as yours that make me salivate at the prospect of DSLR imaging again. Soon, very soon.

Cheers, mate.

Regards,
Humayun

Much appreciated Mike! , I try! Well in the full size version I notice the noise but its rather minimal. As for the orientation it was the other way around and I decided to rotate it some. Must look its best with the darker dust lanes below? Have to revisit your site and have a peep!
cheers Gary

Very nice Gary .... I can't help tweaking things a bit .... hope you don't mind .... here's the result .... hope you like it !
By the way I only tweak what I consider to be good images to start with.

Ah..Tweaky Bird Steve

Not sure I agree with you this time though.

At least you didn't run Gary's image through Jase's compressive contrast stretching image annihilator
