"Police believe a meteorite has crashed near Alice Springs overnight.
Residents at the remote Wallare Rock Hole Community report hearing a loud bang and feeling the ground shake at around 7:00pm local time.
Alice Springs Police have ruled out an aviation accident, saying authorities have accounted for all aircraft.
An investigation will begin later this morning." http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2...18/2394700.htm
Hopefully some one else in this great nation also reported seeing something also....i dont think remoteness has much to do with it as roo shooters are out all night ....truckies....party goers.....someone else had to see something....cheers Kev.
I was out in my backyard at that time satellite spotting and I'm sad to say that I heard and saw nothing (apart from a few satellites). Mind you, for the majority of the time I was looking in every other direction. Wallace Rockhole is about 60 odd k's SW of Alice Springs so it's doubtful that I would have seen anything even if I had been looking.
That's a pretty remote area out that way and I think an extensive air search would be required to find any evidence of an impact. Hope I'm wrong though. It would be nice to have a few more impact sites around.
Interestingly, if there has been an impact around Wallace Rockhole, that would put it around 100 odd k's due north of the Henbury meteorite craters.
Cheers, Phil.
