Something to vs a 13mm Nagler Type 6

Hi guys.

I'm planning on going up to Kulnura with Rod, next friday or saturday night for a 3rd quarter viewing session.

My main purpose of the night will be eyepiece testing, including:

1. The 15mm shootout between the series 500, GS Plossl and GS SuperView.

2. Testing of a 13mm Nagler Type 6, in order to write a review for the site (thanks Bintel!). I'll be testing it in my scope (f/5 @ 1250mm FL) and Rod's LX200 (f/10 @ 2500mm FL), and comparing it to my 14mm Meade UWA s4000.

Also, my DGM Optics NPB filter should've arrived by then, so hopefully I'll put it through its paces, and compare it directly to Rod's Astronomik OIII.

What other similar focal length eyepiece would be useful to compare to the 13mm Nagler? I was thinking that the Pentax 14mm XW might be another good alternative for comparison, but I'll have to ask John B to part with it for the night I don't know of any others in a 13mm FL?

Sounds good Louie, would make for a good comparison.

I'll give you a call to arrange how I can borrow it.

Mike ill be interested to know what your thoughts are about the 13mm nagler in regards to eye relief , i have the 9mm type 6 which shares the same 12mm ER and is comfortable but i find to take in the whole FOV my eyelashs hit the lens {cleaning issues}frequently , this probarly lessens the spacewalk feel a little .This had the influence on me when seeking another higher powered eyepiece i went a 6mm radian with its 20mm ER.Anywhy something to consider while testing

Mike,

The 13mm Vixen Lanthanum Wide.

I have used a 17mm but not the 13mm and I don't know anyone that owns one. Pity because they are top class eyepieces and would have been nice to include it as it would be right up there if its as good as the other focal lengths in the series.

Thanks Stuart, i'll pay particular attention and let you know.

I picked it (the 13mm Nag) up yesterday from Bintel on my way to the Sydney Observatory talk.. Don spoke in great detail about his trip to the US in the last few weeks, visiting the Televue factory and watching first hand their QA procedures and how they test their scopes and eyepieces. Amazing stuff really, and confirms why they have the reputation they do.
