I have just spent the best 2 hours of my life out there in the driveway.
With no moon, clear sky and no wind i would have to say
Trans: 7, could see centauri and tuc 47
Seeing: I, no noticeable movement at 100X
Milky way covered at least 4/5 or more of the sky. Even down low in the south to 10 odd degress, you could see the clouds.
I concentrated on two things tonight, Tarantula and Neptune and achieved both.
I have often swung around to the LMC and really the detail has been poor. Tonight with the ultrawide 30mm, i am not joking, the grey nebula detail would not fit in all the fov. Beautiful
I now have a feel for dark skies and no jetstream. I wish some of you guys could have been there to partake in an ale and drink in the splendour!
A bit more confident tonight, so had a go at Neptune and within aprox 10mins, I found her. The blue of Uranus last night surprised me, but the blue of neptune was really nice and soft. I won't say just like the pictures, but you get my drift. Reassuring is a word that comes to mind.
I really wish some of the equipment for the afocal tests had arrived to day to take some video and shots to share, but fingers crossed, i might get another night tomorrow. Jetstream looks promising.
It was good to get the mind off making eq platforms and stepper motors and just go and look. (Yes Mike and Asimov, I am still using the eyepieces)
