Remote Imaging via Bluetooth or other ??

Fisrt post here but have been reading for a while trying to get my head around all of this wondeful hobby. So I apologise up front if this has been covered before.

I recently bought a CPC11 and have been purchasing odds and ends trying to maximise the experience for a newbie..
Anyways - I have a Orion Bluestar Bluetooth Adaptor which I have got working so that I can remotely control the scope itself from my laptop

I also purchased a Imaging Source DBK41AU02 USB- for starters to try and learn the imaging aspects. (Ive read penty on here as to the color vs mono)

My question is - is there an adaptor or some way I can connect the camera USB to a wireless or bluetooth connection to allow remote imagining along with the scope control ? Im guessing Im probably missing something very easy - so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mat

If you are asking “can you stream video data from the DBK41 at the telescope to your computer in the house” using Bluetooth, I would guess no?

To my understanding, Bluetooth wasn’t designed to transfer large volumes of data such as video data, over large distances. It is a PAN (Personal Area Network).

Whilst I have controlled my mount using a PDA and Bluetooth, this is quite different to streaming a video signal. USB2 is specified at 400Mb/sec and when I last looked, Bluetooth (the original) ran at less than 1Mb/sec and although Bluetooth 2 has since arrived, I think that it is still less than even a pedestrian 2 or 3 Mb/sec?

Hello Mat,

You cannot stream video through Bluetooth - too much data. You need wireless USB (WUSB). Here are two that will work for you:

Thanks for the quick advice Dennis and Serge.

I hadnt even considered the bandwidth limitation of Bluetooth, but the Wireless USB hub might be an item to try.

I guess the only other alternative other than the Wireless device would be to run a longer USB cable which I think you can get up to around 20 foot.

Ill try and track down a wireless usb hub first and give it a go...

I think that once you get over 5 metres with a USB cable, you need repeaters which boost the signal over longer runs.
