Wink Woohoo!!! Astrodons are here

Not bad, in terms of shipping time. Only took about 5 business days from Adirondack to my door. That's better than many items which come via Oz Post, shipped domestically!

Anyway, I'm stoked to have them safely here and hoping I'll get some nice conditions in the next few days to report back with my findings.

Here are some pics, after I quickly installed them in the Atik EFW.

I noticed in the label on the front cover of the plastic case an interesting comment (see pic).

First of all, these are LRsGB and not LRGB, which is what I placed an order for.

http://www.astrovid.com/prod_details.php?pid=2263

And there's that cryptic line about "NEW! Deeper Red Filter".

I'm sure it's nothing...but it's a variation on my order which I wasn't expecting. Perhaps a bonus? I'm hoping it doesn't mean a change in the perfromance charcteristics of the red filter. I wonder what the 's' in LRsGB stands for? I believe it refers to a colour being 'synthetic'...and when refered to like this would normally mean a synthetic Green...but it appears coupled to the Red channel with the labelling on the filter case.

And would it suggest a difference in light throughput and thus efficiency in the Red channel??

Anyway, maybe someone can put me 'in the picture' as to whether this is a positive or not when it comes to using these filters for planetary imaging, which is what I ordered them for and was very clear in my correspondence with Adirondack.

Exciting nonetheless, and I'll find out shortly how they perform.

Problem is each planet wants its own filter type. Fussy things.

You can do some digging (Instead of lounging) and you will find which filters work best for each planet. Theres "Plenty of info out there Scully, you just need to believe"

Theo.

I'm well aware different filters work differently for different planets, Theo. But I think you are talking more along visual observing lines?

After much research and not a lot of 'lounging' I decided on the Astrodon I-Series LRGB filters for my planetary CCD imaging, after having used Astronomik filters. I'd been a little frustrated with the amount of focusing and exposure adjustment required between filter changes and decided to give some other filters a try.

The decision to purchase Astrodons was also based on glowing recommendations from the vendor. The problem is it appears I have been sent a different product from what I paid for...so I thought (as many do here at IIS) I would consult the collective wisdom of this website for insight into this LRsGB configuration. However, that doesn't mean I haven't been busy seeking info from various other quarters.

I have been in touch with Astrodon, the manufacturers of the filters...as well as the vendor. So...not much lounging going on

Now, if you know anything about LRsGB filters as opposed to LRGB...that sort of comment would be most useful I've been Googling but come up empty.

Astrodon-Schuler UVBIR filters

Just picked up a set of these photometric filters. They are thick!! almost 6mm; needed to add spacers to my manual filter wheel to get them in! Much thicker than even the Baader filters, but do they look GOOD!!!!

Hi M66

Yes. I was also a little surprised by their thickness the first time I saw them. I was a little concerned they wouldn't fit in my Atik EFW...but fortunately they did

Not sure what the Rs means.
Rc means "cousins" version of red. Who's name starts with "s"
