Shock, horror, Bintel selling Celestron!

Looking through the October edition of Australian Sky and Telescope I was surprised to see Bintel advertising Celestron gear (CPCs and NexStars).
Long live competition.
Also this could be good news for existing Celestron owners looking for third party add-ons.

gb.

While this is something new..

From speaking with they guys at the shop, they have sold Celestron in the past. And I know that there techs have had training from Celestron in the US for repairs and service to Celestron scopes.
Seeing Orion and Celestron are now parts of the same company, its not surprising that Bintel have now decided to sell Celestron.

Um - they were a dealer in the 1990s and up to recently , guess either they ditched Celestron or Celestron ditched them .... wonder what was behind that ?

The guys had told me Celestron had quality issues in the past (product quality variability) and the their was a strict exclusion on Australian dealer - you could only sell Meade or Celestron - not both (sounds rather anti-competitive doesn't it?).

Perhaps that exclusion has been removed in these days of internet sales.

When I bought my C8 in 1991, it was difficult to find a Meade dealer in Australia.
The prevailing opinion at the time was that Celestron were much better than Meade - not really sure where I heard this at the time, perhaps the Celestron dealer.

What really clinched the Celestron sale for me was that I walked past a Celestron dealer twice a day on the way to/from work - not the recommended way to choose a scope these days
