Which way

I am considering building a small 2x2.4 roll off roof observatory in my backyard is there a certain direction it should face ? Is there any books or web pages that has plans

Generally if you have the choice, the roof would roll of to the South. This gives as clear a view of the rest of the sky as possible. If you have a split roof, it also allows you to semi-close the roof sections and view east to west through the gap, quite handy when its windy!
Have a look at the various threads for ideas, if you google on amateur observatories you'll find a lot of good stuff. Only limited by your imagination ( and cash!)
