Blowing away the cobwebs

I finally got some clear sky for observing last night for the first time since September, my biggest problem at the moment is that I can only view or image on a Friday or a Saturday and the clouds have a habit of appearing on these days. An Obs is planned for next year so this problem of weekend only observing will be resolved.

But not last night and it was great, I got to catch up with all the old summer favourites. The air was warm and still and I'd rate the seeing as average.

The cloud eventually rolled in about 1:30am to bring a halt to proceedings and is still hanging around today.

Still it was just great to get out under the stars for a while and enjoy this great hobby. Hope everyone else had a great night out as well.

Cheers

I have had little viewing time lately too. The skies that start off clear during the day often turn cloudly at around dusk. Annoying to say the least.

Glad you had a good night Ric.

Cheers

Thanks Gary, the high cloud is starting to burn off now so there might be a good chance of another night out tonight.

Hope you get some good night skies out your way soon.

Cheers

I was jumping the gun a bit here as well, no sooner than the cloud started to burn off another bank rolled in to replace it and that was the way it stayed.

Oh well there will be other times, soon I hope.

Cheers

apparently acold current in the southern ocean is closer to the south coast of Aus, bringing cold weather and more cloud.

the BOM reckon things will improve around christmas and onwards.

Hi Jen, there certainly has been a lot of it floating around lately.

By contrast today is picture perfect, a beautiful blue sky and not a cloud to be seen.

If it stays this way I may have to setup this evening and pay for it tomorrow at work.

Cheers

Clear for Christmas , that would be a nice present as I've got ten days off .

Did BOM factor in the cloud to astro present ratio?

Cheers

We did have a couple of nights of clear skies last week.
But it looks like that will be the last for a while.
I've got some astro gear on order and it's due for delivery near full moon. I'm hoping this means that the sky will clear by new moon.

It was a lovely clear night tonight so I had the binoculars out on a tripod for a while and enjoying great sweeping views of the milky way.

Had to pull the pin tonight for a different reason, a couple of young lads were having a fight over a young ladys attention by the dam and were getting a bit too close for comfort.

I'm talking about kangaroos of course.

Had a good clear sunny day here today and started getting excited about setting my scope up tonight..

I was in such a good mood I even mowed the lawn after work with an extra spring in my step.

Then It happened. The weather changed. The southerly wind started about an hour before dark. The clouds started to roll in

Now there is a deep depression inside as well as outside

So instead of tonight it's

Ah well tomorrow is another day.

Cheers again

Gary

As you say Gary, tomorrow is another day and weather can change so quickly so a couple of good nights will always make up for the cloudy ones.

Mind you a secondary hobby to fall back on is always handy, IIS is good for this.
