Seperate Eyepieces sub-forum?

Hi guys.

Just wondering what you guys thought of having a seperate sub-forum for eyepiece/barlow/filter related discussions, or leave it combined in this Equipment forum to cover all aspects of equipment?

It was suggested a long time ago, but at that time we just weren't big or busy enough to warrant it. But now there are a lot more members, and a lot more discussions specific to eyepieces, and specific to other equipment. So, do you want to seperate the discussions into different forums, or keep them together?

Please vote, and post any discussions below.

I voted in the affirmative for the reason that the same questions pop up time and time again, and having these topics in their own sub forum will keep the threads from scrolling off the page so quickly.

What would be nice to see is a few eyepiece comparitive articles or faq's pinned to the top of the forum so that those seeking knowledge can do a bit of pre research before asking more specific questions.

Commonly asked questions:
  • What barlow should I buy?
  • What eyepieces should i order with my gso dob ?
  • I want to upgrade from my cheap plossls, what should I buy?
  • Is that cheap widefield a good buy ?

I think maybe a general forum for equip discussions.... and a reference forum/area where useful articles/comparisons can go.... I find it a pain to have to check through 4 different forums for equipment discussions...

In their own sub forum.
It'll be so much easier to find info.

Another idea, which we've started using at cloudynights.com is creating a 'best of equipment' thread where links to the best threads are listed. The thread would be locked to all but mod/admin, but visible to all. A separate thread could be 'best of eyepieces', etc. That way it's easier to find the really juicy stuff.

Just a thought from the odd Yank.

I agree with seperate area. People new seem to ask the same questions all the time.

Which is fine as how else can they learn. But in a seperate forum they can look up old information before they ask a ?

well the intrest is there so it looks to be the way to go, but i voted against it. unnecesary I think it is. talk like yoda i will.
I just think its better to have equipment in the equipment forum. I mean do we have a filters forum, or a focusers forum, or a mirror clips forum?

Mirror clips forum!

Burmese or Brazilian rubber and the effects of rapidly dropping ambient air temperatures.

I think all the useful info discussed on the forum would be better easier to access in a seperate forum. How about including a subforum for filters as well with the EP's.

Thanks to those that voted. The new sub-forum has been created, so post your eyepiece, barlow and filter discussions there!
