Comets A1 / 6P / N3

Hi All!

Some images i took from Walcha, NSW on the 23rd August

A1 McNaught is showing a faint tail, 6P shows an elongated coma and N3 shows a nice tail as well!

All images taken with Canon 400D and Celestron Ultima 8" PEC @ f/6.3, all 3 minute exposures!

All i have to say is how the hell does a comet do it..... I mean fly though all those stars and planets and gravitational pulls, black holes dark matter ect ect ect ect... and still travel in a happy orbit.????? mind boggling!

Nice work OBMY! I had a look at A1 yesterday evening - quite bright but nestled in against a small bright star so it took a little while to find it (no charts with me!). In the scope the star 'extinguished' one side of the coma, giving the illusion of the coma streaming away on one side. But only an illusion I'm afraid! Couldn't pick it in binocs, but only because of the star I think. It's certainly bright enough to see. Must be nearly naked eye in dark skies. Will have another look tonight.

Well , sometimes - for often that you would think , they don't , they often get ejected from the solar system by the jovian planets or the sun, or they fall into them, or they break up.

Most them lead lonely existances way out past Neptune and rarely meet or see any neighbours.
