10" f/4.8 research grade (imaging) Newt OTA with Zygo interferometric report. Look!

SOLD

I have decided to (reluctantly!) sell my 10" f/4.8 Newtonian OTA since it's not being used.

This is produced by Orion Optics UK - not to be confused with 'Orion' USA who sell junk by comparison.

This OTA has the Hilux coated research grade optics, produced at the Orion factory in Crewe, Cheshire, UK. Naturally, it comes with a Zygo interferometric wavefront analysis certificate. The Optic has a Strehl of 0.985, and an rms wavefront error of 0.02 (1/50th wave!). The PV wavefront is 0.118 wave (118/1000th).

The OTA also has a double ring spider, for diffraction spike-less images, producing refractor-like views - in fact, better than a refractor as there is absolutely zero colour from a reflector!

The OTA comes with a pair of Parallax USA rings, drilled and tapped to M6 ready to take a 4" Losmandy dovetail plate. The OTA has the standard Orion UK Crayford focuser, that will hold cameras or eyepieces in weight up to an STL11000M.

With the OTA being the quality instrument it is, I also had made a custom fitted aluminium flightcase from StarCase UK, which will be included.

Total package price new was $2440 AUD, but will sell for $1000. No offers please. Can deliver to an ASNSW meeting, or to either of their dark sky sites.

Pictures of OTA, flight case, and Zygo report available on request.

This is a fantastic OTA, which I'll probably regret selling one day!

Thanks - Rob.

Mick

I guess it could be posted - I'm sure a courier would take it as it is, in the flight case since that's what it's designed for

As for cost, I have no idea. Could obtain quotes based on distance, size and weight I guess...

Regards,
Rob

Due to popular demand, some pictures of the scope, case, and rings:

Also, just to clarify, you may need a coma corrector for imaging with sensors any larger than a DSLR. Coma is not a fault - it's inherent in the Newtonian optical configuration. The Baader MPCC is an ideal coma corrector.

Also, the interior of the OTA has been flocked with Protostar deep black flocking for maximum contrast and no internal reflections.

I will attempt to find images taken with this scope and post those too as a separate 'reply'.

Regards,
Rob

Some images I have taken with this 10" Newtonian, with an SBIG STL11000M, and Televue STL-Paracorr. All taken from 53' North latitude
