Having acquired quite a collection space/astronomy texts from various sources (NASA visits, university booklists, technical bookshops), I need to thin out my collection a little due to overflowing bookcases and some content overlap between books.
Items for sale are as follows:
1. Stars and Planets (Patrick Moore, 1982, 112 pages) Book which got me started in astronomy about 15 years ago. Excellent diagrams/photos, and good coverage of solar system, northern/southern sky maps, galaxies, popular nebulas/open-clusters/globs, telescope mount types, etc. $10
2. A Meeting with the Universe - Science Discoveries from the Space Program
(NASA, 1981, 221 pages) Good general book on space science (approx 1/3 focused on solar system, 1/3 deep space, 1/3 space flights/exploration). Includes details/photos from various missions, and a 33 page appendix summarising the chronology of discoveries from major manned & unmanned missions. $10
3. Einstein’s Universe (Nigel Calder, 1982, 154 pages) A popular book explaining Einstein’s General Relativity (curvature of space, gravity waves) and Special Relativity (effects of high speed motion & gravity on time, time dilation, time paradoxes). $10
4. Gravity (George Gamow, 1982, 157 pages) An introductory book on gravity, best suited for a teenager or adult who has not already covered in physics at high school and uni. Explains the maths of gravity (forces between bodies, acceleration), effects on planets & tides, escape velocities, and introduces some of the gravitational theories and unsolved problems. $5
Or$30 for the lot.
Total weight is approx 2.5kg, and postage to a few major Aust cities would be as follows:
Sydney/Canberra/Adelaide/Brisbane/Hobart $12
Melbourne $7
Perth $16
Please send a PM if interested.
Cheers,
Jeff
