Night Vision

how do you stop a Laptop from shutting down when you close the lid or better still anyone have a program for converting the screen to night vision for everything

The 'night vision' mode in software is next to useless. The light intensity, although red, is still way too high and too bright to be of any use. You are better off making a simple filter to put infront of your screen. There is an article on IIS regarding making one of these:

I've made one for my laptop from a piece of filter material I bought from the South Pacific Star Party for about $10 and cardboard.

In Windows XP: Control Panel -> Power Options -> Advanced.

"When I close the lid of my portable computer": Do Nothing / Stand by / Hibernate.

I wouldn't leave a laptop lid closed like that for too long. The rising heat from the laptop might harm the LCD if you keep it in that state excessively.
