Very tidy image Mike, but it struck me that the background sky has some subtle colour variations.
I dropped the image in to CS3/Photoshop and sure enough...if you have a look at the individual channels in (*native* no stretching... honest ), there is some mottling in the red and blue channels yet the green looks perfect.
As for a cause/fix....I'll leave it to you ...you may not want to bother

Psst!...don't tell Jase!....and I guess you couldn't work it out for yourself but I had some colour gradients due to cloud aaand I did the best I could with minimal tools at hand at the moment but hey, thanks for the probe and checkup, do you bulk bill?

hey, I heard that...
You should have dithered the subs Mike
Seriously, yes, as Peter mentions subtle mottling is present, but it does not distract from the beauty of the overall scene. Its rather "ballsy" to upload a 1:1 image in the first place. Most simply resize/downscale to hide the problems, much like plasterboard really. Really, a top shelf piece of work. Thanks for the opportunity to have swim.

Hey, Peter seldom says too much nice about any of my work at the best of times, he's a hard man. Actually what he said is pretty good to me, considering

remarkable image! I downloaded the 13 meg version, could spend hours scanning it and still not see all.

Actually Jase this full res image with everything on display (including the subtle mottling ) is good to look at in regard to what I was saying the other day about the cleaness of the ProLine 11002. The subs used in this image were not dithered and were simply "added" in preprocessing, I used no hot pixel removal nor did I use any noise fliters in post processing on the Luminance or final image for that matter, what you see here is straight off the chip basically and downloaded at 12MPPs (only about a 1.5sec for each sub to download!). So have a close scan around, even at this scale there isn't much dirt to find. I did use a light guassian blur on the RGB before doing the LRGB combine but the RGB data was binned 1X1 and was only 20min of each (annoying drifting cloud stopped me getting more) and this is of course not really enough for colour data so the blur was to reduce the snowy noise from lack of signal only. I used the same set of -35C darks I compiled last year too.

mmm, must say takes guts to post at that res, and even zooming in to 200% just shows even more little galaxies, and still the stars are round. This pic was ordinarily good untill this monster res was posted and viewed with extra zooming, then it became quite a spectaular indeed, well done Mike, you WW you ;-).

A great image Mike and wonderful framing.
I wasn't even aware of NGC6752.
I say rock on with the APO refractor shots instead of all the compound scope images!

Nice work mate - I hope we can see you up there again soon.
My shots turned out OK but I am not happy with the focus as usual but more on that later when I post my shots.

Having a look at the big image. Gee its picture perfect. Procssed to show as much information as possible. A pleasing very dark but not completely black background yet plenty of inner detail in the globular. The galaxies are great, even the impossibly faint ones scattered throughout.
I like the image of the setup as well, the smiling owner really tops it off
What did you use for power, your own powersource? I see a yellow lead trailing out of picture there.

Yeh you're right, on the chin, sorry...anyway, you're just jealous and bitter cause I noted the lack of res in your 14.5" RCOS Eta shot, I know

Yep I got more guts than muscles these days that's for sure .
Glad you enjoyed the big swim and you are right, at 1400 X 900 it looked very nice but the little galaxies in the same field as the huge globular can't be fully appreciated at such a size, there is no big multi coloured galaxy or nebula to fill the view either but at full mega size suddenly this image takes on it's own magesty because you can pan around and this suits this type of vast high res (not long FL) imaging of galaxy clusters and more sparse star fields. Posting such a large file of say an individual galaxy wouldn't do it justice as it needs to be seen all in one, so in that case the 1400 X 900 image would have been more suited.
With so many on fast broadband these days posting such a large file is viable now.....so the pressure is on big boy

Yes the Starfire (or other high end 6" APO's with big flat fields) is most probably the best smaller aperture instrument to image with but I would rather that the ASA 12" had been a corker becasue 12" at F3.6 and the same FL as the Starfire would have rocked dude

You will see me again that's for sure, shame we only got one night though, my marathon 3 night effort on Centaurus A back in May spoiled me into thinking that it would always be like that at Wiruna
Look forward to seeing your Lagoon/Trifid shot when it's ready, shame you couldn't colour that terrific Ha framing you had.

It was only 70min of luminance which in suburban skies would have returned much less but under true dark skies it is plenty. Glad you like the processing of the background, it is always a fine line between having it too light and too dark and I usually err on the lighter side. I don't care for the unnaturally smooth and even black backgrounds many imagers try to impart on their images, there is no such thing from earth. Actually I'm partial to a very slight blue cast in my night sky backgrounds if I can, gives it that cold dark sky look to me..?
Everytime I look at my setup I smile and get excited, I love it, it is a real pleasure to use and so far has never really let me down (pain to travel with and setup though )
My first two visits to Wiruna I have setup near the main hall and accessed the inverted mains power from the large solar charged battery bank. Next time I go the imagers house should have similar inverted mains power available so I will most likely setup up there with that mad mobb Last weekend I think they drank far more wine and beer than they gathered images .....

Thanks Babylon5 glad it was worth the download time and you liked it
BTW, I searched for your name quickly but there has been no reference to it in any of your posts to date, any reason for the anoniminity...? Or did I miss it?
Cheers
