Beijing 2008 Olympics

Wow I thought the opening ceremony was fantastic, all the themes, music, dance etc melded well....liked the Zheng He part....the Chinese people should be very proud. Politics aside here's hoping for a great few weeks of exciting sport......

PS. A tip for all the lads, my eagle eye noticed during the athlete march in a Lass from Paraguay going by the name of Leryn Franco, she's participating in the Women's javelin, keep an eye out for her Aye Caramba

The drummers were phenomenal. I guess one thing China is great at is synchronising people.... brilliant.

I'm actually stunned by the beauty of the areas surrounding the city today. Watching the cycling road race you get a dose of reality, and a fabulous picture of what I've always percieved to be a drab country. Wrong or what. It's one of the only places I haven't been - so I think that I have to remedy that somehow...

I guess so Graham. I'd suppose they've made a pretty special effort to make sure that the whole distance covered was clean and manicured for the televised event. We would have done the same when we had it. It's the greenery and flow of the hilly areas that struck me. As local countryside goes, it's pretty nice!

An amazing opening ceremony for sure Beren, I think I saw that young lady as well, Olympic athlete and part-time super model.

I've been watching the rowing and the 45kg Womens weightlifting, the Chinese girl effectively just lifted 3 times her own body weight for an Olympic record.

How good was the finish on the Peleton. The way it finished with the 6 was quite something considering the 245 odd km's and 7 & 1/2 hours. Who knows what could have happened with another km. Proud of Australia's effort.

Libby Trickett just made it through to semi final in the 100m Butterfly. I don't know how they swim that fast like that but it's very impressive.
