Absolutly stunning night

Hi All,

Stunning night here in Broken Hill. Have just come in from my observatory. Been imaging Jupiter for 3 1/2 hrs, every 10 mins. seeing has been very good all the way through with periods of excellent clarity.

Have 22 RGB avi's so got to get started on processing, should make a great animation. Will post them on the Solar System forum probably tomorrow.

Regards
Trevor

Where are you? ...Broken Hill? That's west of here, and last night was one of the worst nights I've experienced all due to westerly winds of up to 50kph gusting to 70.9 kph! Do you have wind repellent of something? The only thing I went out last night for was to find and secure the source of the loud banging that woke me up at 2:30am.

Glad someone got some good weather...

Al.

Yes amazing, I would have thought the wind while bringing dark skies may have killed the seeing.
Was it windy there?

As a new member on what is a perfectly clear moonless and deep sky in the southern highlands in New South Wales I have a simple question.

Is Jupiter really only -2.9 currently as the references say in terms of maximum apparent magnitude.

This evening at 6.33 there was a predicted Iridium flare of -4 a bit to the east of Arcturus which as a reference point of 0.04 seemed quite accurate.

However Jupiter which was at a similar elevation in a different quadrant seemed obviously brighter.

About a month ago, when Jupiter was low in the west pre dawn, I did compare it to a predicted -8.3 Iridium flare almost directly overhead but that most definitely outshone the planet. Quite a sight too.
