Good conditions last night 25/7.

The pic looks a little bright to me but I am pretty happy with the results.

Taken with 8" newt with 2.5 x powermate and a Toucam.

good detail mate... Could do with a bit more contrast... next time you capture make sure gamma is set to 0 and contrast is high..

Looks good oggie - image scale is very small but I guess that's normal for what's gonna be around 2.5m focal length with the 2.5x powermate.

Is your 8" newt on an EQ mount?

You could look to investing in a 4x or 5x barlow/powermate to get more image scale.

You could use curves to increase the contrast in post processing to get a little more detail.

Mike, I have the 8" on an heq5. I am cutting my teeth on a 2.5 powermate before I attempt the 5x. Sometimes its best to start up the shallow end of the pool.

I have reworked the original pic with curves, rgb balance and contrast.

I think it looks a bit better that the first cut.

Would you mind uploading a stacked, unedited image?

Starting in the shallow end is a good way to go.. I did the same thing, started with the 8" still on the dobsonian base with a cheapie 2x barlow.. It does give you a chance to hone your processing skills and also get your capture routine down pat. It also helps you get a better idea of if you like planetary imaging enough to continue to spend money on it... a 5x powermate is not really a useable item for much else... and for the money, you really want to know you'll get use out of it.

Alex, I don't have a problem uploading the un edited image. Attached are the stacked R,G & B files.

A 5 x is on the shopping list but I will make do with the 2.5 x for the moment. I will concentrate on technique and post processing to gain improvement.
