Potential big observing site at Mangrove Mountain to gather...

Edit: I will do a serious nightime evaluation of the site before raising the matter again. I think it is a great potential site.

Mark my only concern there is that there is 'street light' from nearby poles.
I haven't been down there for a while though so I might stick my head in one night and check it out.
I would like an alternative site, as much as I like the pony club, the street light is a little annoying.

As I said it would be good to have an alternative site and if, as you say, it's darker then why not.

Due to the layout the southern end is about two football fields away from the road with low trees and bush all around with a good area about 100m sqaure next to a car park. I remember it being very dark . There is a council depot about mid way up the strip with some bright lights.

I will have to do a proper recon one night soon.

Definitely happy (and keen) to check it out one night.

As for long term, guess it depends how much the fee would be. A couple of dollars wouldn't be an issue.

I was thinking too, if we had use of the club house, there is plenty of seating and a slow combustion fire which also opens up the possibility of some different activities such as informal workshops

Checked out the site tonight and there are no lighting problems. Perhaps I should keep this one to myself

How do we gain entry? I'm guessing someone would have to get the key? Is it kept far away?

It is privately leased land . It won't be available for individuals to use, on an ad hoc basis. It may not ultimately be suitable at all for political and some functional reasons. But I am still looking into the matter.

I am sorry if I gave the wrong impression.
I do not intend to use it as an individual on an ad-hoc basis.

All I was asking, was a question, so as to give an opinion on the site as others have, as I regulary pass through the mountains for my work.

Also, if it is where I think it is, I most probably was the one who initiated the discussion a few months back with someone who is on the committee for the use of this land..
