Trifid Nebula with 450D and 12" GSO

Hi all,

First light image from the newly coated GSO 12" mirror.

75-minute exposure with Hutech modded Canon 450 DSLR.

How much did re-coating the mirror cost?

About $320 from memory. Done by Chi Qin Co. Excellent job, great service.

Vivid colour and lots of detail in the nebula.

Makes me want to mod my 450D.

Yeah David, arrived back last night. Did this image before that trip. Hadn't had time to show until now.

Not too long at all... about 2 weeks or so including transport.

Well done.

The mod. makes all the difference. I got the clear filter so I could do wideband imaging in the future ( if I decide too ). I use a 2" screw on Baader IR cut filter and it all works fine. Hutech also sell a filter which makes corrects the colour balance back to "normal" so that you can still use the camera for normal daylight/flash photography. And..... the AUS dollar is currently very high...

Yeah mate, back on the East cost now... was a pretty exhausting trip but feeling fine now.

PS. Don't forget if you have nowhere to setup your AP 6" and FLI ProLine,,, well there's always my obervatory
