Mars and Saturn Conjunction - 10th and 11th July

Hi all

The first image was taken tonight, outside the now infamous Iguana Joe's nightclub restaurant.

350D + Sigma 17-70mm lens, 2.5s exposure @ ISO400, 21mm focal length.

The second image is 3 images of various exposures put on the same image, taken last night through the ED80 and 350D. The focal length was only 480mm, so the images are cropped and really not what I wanted out of it.

I need a scope with 1000mm focal length!

Anyway, was a lovely sight all the same.

I have more images from tonight but need more time to go through them.. maybe tomorrow.

that first one through the ED80 is a ripper.. shows saturn + rings and mars well.. Also, being at 480mm it shows the close apparent proximity of the two...

Well done Mike. A great set of images.

Jeepers AlexN,

your eyes must be better than mine - I can only just make out the specs of light let alone rings around one of them

I can make out the I.J. building in the foreground though, so I know where not to go to avoid sharing my space with a doggy looking old slapper.

Cheers,

LOL good ol' Iguana's......featured in so many of our favourite astro event photos.

There was a time when passers-by would chant "Aussie Aussie Aussie", now they chant "....hey we know who you are......Mike Salway."

Beautiful shots mate.
