MEADE 16 inch Newtonian OTA - Price reduced

Meade Newtonian 16inch (406mm) f4.5 Reflecting telescope OTA - SOLD
Telescope Optical Tube Assembly only
Being passed on for an estate (unused for 10 years)
Circa 1992 - when Meade telescopes were made in the USA, and Meade was a premium telescope and highly sought after
Premium quality system - 406mm (16 inch) aperture
f4.5 Newtonian - 1820mm Focal length
Complete with premium Japanese Rack & Pinion 2 inch focuser & 1.25 inch adaptor
Primary mirror condition - Aluminised surface is slightly worn in small patches, and should be premium realuminised (Al & SiO2 overcoated) at some time in the next say 5 years (we can have this performed for this systems buyer only - at extra cost)
Apologies but we do not realuminise for the public (for our society members only)
Pickup from Melbourne only - no interstate delivery available (sorry, it's a big system)

System is clogging up my workshop so it must be sold, therefore price has been reduced

Tempting.

Would you consider disassembling , not interested in the tube or the rack and pinion , but may be interested in the optics and mirrorcell (if a proper metal one with at least 9 point flotation - 27 point would be better), the secondary + holder and spider .

How much would the above all weight ?

How mich to get a Ti02 overcoated dielectric coating on the primary and secondary ?

Dear Enquirers,

This telescope would not go on your EQ6.

This telescope weighs a lot, it is nearly 6 feet tall and weighs probably around 50 Kg.

You wouldn't operate it on any equatorial mount other than something a lot bigger than an EQ6.

I recommend you put it on a Dob box, plans for Dob boxes are all over the internet.

The mirror cell is the standard Meade unit that was produced for this telescope. It is a 9 point cell system.

The primary is able to be stripped and recoated including SiO2 (using unique single optic process, NOT using multiple optics in the tank at the one time) at cost for $400, however a shipping box would need to be made.

Secondary does not need realuminising. Dielectric coating is unavailable in Australia, and is not offered for this system (it is also totally unsuitable for this system, Dielectric coating is for 90 degree diagonals like William Optics excellent units).

As stated previously system needs to be picked up from Melbourne.

I am delighted to support enquiries from interstate but you will need to come and get the gear.

Thanks for the enquiries.

Rgds,
Astromelb.

Dear Satchmo,

I can aluminise to 50 inches, however only do so for systems that I have hand crafted or for our society members. It is a dirty and dangerous process.

Rgds,
Astromelb.
