My first Colour Jupiter

This is my first colour shot of Jupiter, with my DMK21. I think I have done the "normal" thing. Taken as many frames as I could in RGB, limiting my time on each channel to about1 minute; using VirtualDub, then Registax. I tried to do the combining in Photoshop Elements but couldn't. So I used PaintShop Pro (I am more familiar with this one.)

All my viewing and photos have been taken, so far, in my front yard on the Gold Coast. When the weather gets a bit better, and it is worth the effort, I will make some trips to the west to find some nice dark park.

I am loving the challenge, and the results so far of the using the DMK.

BTW, I have an 8" newtonian on an EQ5.

Darrell

Excellent first result, Darrell. Some good detail visible there.

What filterwheel + filters are you using?

What codec are you using in ICCapture?

Colour or no colour, you have captured a fine Juipter especially for your first attempt, well done.

I use an Orion Filter wheel with the Orion LRGB filter set.

Codec? Codec?? Hmmm, not sure. Whatever the default install does. Is that the Y800 thing? I will have a look next time I plug it in.

Nice Jupiter mate, details are coming through nicely! your color seems a bit flat.. I have no experience with mono cameras + filters, or have any idea how much more difficult it makes the process.

But nevertheless its a fine image... especially for south east queensland conditions of late...

Tonight is starting to look like a clear night from what I can see here at work... perhaps get out tonight at 11:30 - 12:00

AlexN, you are right - the colour does seem a little "flat". So I was doing a bit of experimenting and read about unsharpen.

I don't understand what I have done, but this is the result. I think it looks better, because there seems to be more detail. It doesn't seem to be 'as flat".

Is this the sort of thing you guys do with your images?

Thanks
Darrell

Hi Darrell,

Very nice image for the first go! Well done.

Cheers

Chris

p.s no offense intended here, but does Joop look a little squishy on the left side or are my eyes playing tricks again (must stay out of the special mushroom patch down the back shed)?
