40D Three reprocessed Images

Because of the heavy cloud then moonlight we have only been able to image once in the past two months . Don't mind cloud if we get rain as well

I decided to reprocess some of our first images taken in March with the 40D. David captured the data and I think I have improved on our previously posted images of the objects having lots more time to practice and also using helpful hints from Jase and Clive.

Images taken with 40D Unmodded

NGC6188 Emission Nebula ... IC294 Emission Nebula ...NGC2997 Spiral Galaxy

Those are fantastic images B&D.
I especially like the NGC6188 image - great job on that one.
The spiral galaxy image looks like it's had a bit too much Noise Reduction applied - evident on the extremities of the spiral arms. But the detail you've brought out is worth it.
You have obviously put those cloudy nights to good use.

What absolutely stunning deep sky images... all three are amazing. Hard to believe (and yet inspiring to me )these were taken with a "humble" DSLR and not some mega expensive dedicated astro camera

A big thumbs up!!!

Amazing images B&D!

Knowing that these were taken with an unmodded DSLR makes it all that much better. Definitely inspiring.

andand:thumbsup :

the running chicken nebula is superbly crisp, the bright blue star shows it with the tight diffraction spikes... it also offers an interesting composition which i like

the weather is not expected to improve here in Melbourne for quite some time.

Cloudy nights means more processing practice Doug
The spiral galaxy has been heavily cropped so in this case I needed to use a little noise reduction.

Thanks for the kind words Rob. We enjoy pushing the 40D to see how much we can draw from the data.

In a way the weather has helped me take the time to reprocess some of our images and it's surprising how much better they seem to be with a little more time spent.
Not looking at modding just yet Fred

Got to be pleased with them .

Are you using a light pollution filter in those , or are fortunate in have dark unpolluted skies ?

Lovely work reprocessing B & D.

I think you have brought out a lot of detail with these images.

Cheers

The 6188 and particularly the Running Chicken are excellent Barb, the composition of the chicken is very appealing. The 2997 may have looked better with some of the noise left in..? Noise reduction can really make an image look kind of "fake" where as a little noise is remenicent of the old film days where a bit of noise was quite acceptable and thus to me maintains more natural qualities but this is just my thoughts, nice job of reprocessing.

Truely eye catching images. So clean and clear. Shots to be proud of. Could you process some of my images and get them to look this good?

Really Nice well done

Great images! You'd have to be happy and sad though... Happy with the results sad with the fact that the processing was forced by bad weather...

I suppose it gives you a chance to hone the processing skills when its cloudy (I do the same..) but I prefer clear skies

Top work..

I agree Mike I try not to use noise reduction on our images and the 40D handles it well. Just that I probably cropped the galaxy too heavily and decided to try noise reduction to improve it but haven't succeeded very well. I'll give the galaxy another try

Alex we have had 25mm rain in the past two days so considering we have had a very dry 6 months we're happy that at last we have rain on the cloudy days (and nights) Forecast .. fining up next week. Fingers crossed Maybe catch some new data

Spectacular reprocessing there. You've extracted some fine details in NGC6188. I think that would be my pick of the bunch. Great stuff and keep it up.
