Ngc 6357- the guts of the Crab

Hi all,
getting further and further from good conditions as time
passes.
The Earth she's a changin'.

Any way,
this emission nebula is quite interesting with lots
of action happening.
With my fov, you won't see why it was nick named
'the Crab'.
I didn't bother with taking any red channel for the
compilation due to the weather deteriorating when
taking the colour. So it's a Lum/ Ha combine and Ha substituted for red with the green and blue channels for the rgb.
The moon was out when taking the blue channel so it is probably a little washed.

So a bit of artistic license here.
Overall though, it is an emission neb and the Ha/ red
wave length certainly dominates.
Here's a link to my front page....
http://www.baytop-observatory.com/

Thanks for taking a look.

All the best
Rich

Lovely work Rich. You've certainly acquired the essence of what this target is all about - deep reds, detailed twists and knots of nebulosity. All very pleasing. Well done.

Thanks Jase, Rob, Seeker and Mat for taking a look,

Had fun with my computers out in the observatory.
Changed out the computer that controls my mounts motors and had to re-tune them to it.
Thought I'd miss the clearish night but just made it.

Ah yes, never a dull moment in my observatory...

Cheers
Rich

Ah well, at least you've got one

I think you need to move Rici, that weather in Streaky Bay sounds like Newcastles ie mostly crap.

Nice work none the less

The Helix on your site is pretty good BTW. Incidentaly, I nearly asked you for permission to enter this image in the DM awards:

It didn't make my final cut in the end but I recon we dun good on this one

Cheers

Mike

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ?

I'd love to see this image Rich ... it sounds great but I still can't visit your site for some obscure reason. Each time I try IE just closes .... weird !

Maybe it's bloody Vista Home Premium's security crapp or something. Everyone esle seems to be having no problem. Maybe you can upload a small version of it to IIS so I can have a squiz.

hi Rich,

that one is terrific!
I like the kind of red in that nabula!
it is a bit of blood-red,...which touches my "surgical part" in my soul... (-:

Steve, get Firefox and ditch IE. IE is a waste of time.

Hey Mike the man,
sorry mate, I know how you miss that ol' observatory of yours. Chin up.
I think the weather pattern is fickle everywhere.
I reckon if I moved inland to the pristine skies about 300kms north, Hughy (the rain god) would send me sh#t no doubt.

Should have asked about the image Mike, would have sent you the Tiff.
I reckon I remember you compiling this a while ago??
Looks good seeing our names along side Wolfgangs
I didn't put anything in the DM awards this year, so it would have been interesting!

Sorry to here of your probs Steve.
As mentioned, get rid of IE, nothing but a trouble magnet. I've used FireFox/ Mozilla for a few years now and have never had a drama with it.
I'll see what I can do with a small version for here, but it won't show the finer detail.

Thanks Diets!!
Think you've been dabbling in peoples gizzards too long Diets.
Might be time to become a professional astro imager

Thanks for that Barb & Dave.
Didn't add any extinction factors, just straight out rgb ratio with my setup.
Was surprised how vibrant the Ha was, cause I only selected 8 subs to use for the red channel.

Thanks again all.
Nice to have one under the belt.
Has been an inconsistent run of late.

All the best
Rich
