Jupiter, Brisbane, June 11 - average seeing

I knew the seeing wasn't very good before I started, but I couldn't help myself

I just wanted to set up after such a long break from imaging due to cloud and rain.

The usual: C9.25, ToUcam, 3x barlow.

Processed in Registax 4 and AstraImage 2.5MAX.

Still a damn fine effort despite the seeing.
Weather has been so disgusting here the last week or so I forget what Jup looks like..I envy you!

Nice one, Despite the seeing you've captured alot of nice detail... I must admit, I'm a bit miffed.. I wanted to be the first jupiter post today... Oh well.. Mine will be up in a minute... Seeing wasnt the greatest, but you're right. It was just good to be amongst it all after more than a week and a half off....

The ToUcam Matt! You naughty boy! Why not the DMK? In poorer seeing it will still do a better job.

Looks like you ended the session early too, before Jupiter was really up high enough. Needed sleep, or clouds?

Thanks guys. Was good to do some imaging...even if the conditions were not favourable.

Mike - I know I thought about getting the DMK, filter wheel and associated guff out, but just couldn't get inspired. The seeing was so naff I couldn't bring myself to go through the whole RGB capture and process routine.

Them's the breaks.

I use the ToUcam to gauge the seeing and determine whether it's worth the extra hassle of setting up the DMK. It wasn't.

BTW, I read on the DMK user group site you're using a new codec with your DMK?

Yeh, I'm now using the MJPEG codec. It seems to work very well when on the highest quality setting - i can't determine any difference between it and the Y800. And it produces avi's about 1/3 of the size.

The OSC cam is great for when the conditions don't warrant the full RGB routine...even though the DMK would deliver a better job.

It's a matter of degrees, though. Bad/average seeing is bad/average seeing, after all. I crank out the DMK and go through the whole RGB thing when there are conditions in which the DMK can really show its worth.

Otherwise..I'm happy to just have a little 'shoot-and-giggle' session.

Each to their own, though...and thanks for the efforts to get me back into it.
