This just came in my email from the Losmandy yahoo group

"As you can see in the photo, I must be pushing 80 lbs on the G11 with
the 14 inch scope, 4 inch guide scope, camera and associated
equipment. I don't use the Gemini, which makes it much easier for the
motors. I make sure that the mount is balanced which makes it very
easy to push the scope around to my target. At first I thought that
the mount was overloaded but I have not seen any evidence of a load
problem. I don't think twice about the load now when setting up.
Tracking is spot on and I plan on using it in the future for some F10
shots. I had been using the scope for F2 shots."

You have balls, I like it .

The C14 (carbon?) is probably lighter than the Meade 14", so that might be a 1st choice. What do you mean by "found", C14 or Meade?.

"I plan on using it in the future for some F10 shots". Thats a fairly critical statement, hes only tried F2?????, Whaaa.....???.

An internally guided SBIG would lighten the load (no guide scope) but if you do go external, use a light guidescope eg ST80. The wide FOV of your DSLR will help (and a focal reducer), but anyway, id be VERY interested how you go on this little adventure

Fred,
The C14 is 45 lbs which is much lighter than the Meade equivalent so it was my preference.

I do hope to eventually look at a self-guided SBIG but for now stuck using the external guidescope , my WO ZS 80 MM
the Losmandy plate i sit it on is a heavy piece of quipment so i might swap it witht he C14 base plate which is lighter so that the main concentration of weight is closer to the mount head/center of gravity.

I'm hopeful,
nothing ventured...
ill keep you guys posted dont you worry!
