M20 - Triffid Nebula (2nd light)

Hi Guys,
heres my second go at it, i think i'm starting to get somewhere now, i also managed to get my MPCC back into service so no more coma! its doing an amazing job too.

i'm very happy with this image, i know it really needs some flats though.

i also noticed i captured something moving through the fov (check the high res version), anyone know what it might be? i've attached a crop of it too.
i'm a bit tired to check it out myself now but i'll definately go through my subs tonight and try to work out what it is.

calibrated with darks/offset but no flats yet
10x 600s subs
MPCC + UHC-S

high res here : http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...m20triffid.jpg

Excellent result! I'd probably raise the black point a bit though.

Are you imaging through the 6" newt?

Thanks Mike,
yep, imaging through the 6" and guiding through the ED80.
the 6" has a really thick 3 vane spider and gives the strange diffraction spikes

i thought i set the black point a bit too low, i'll fix that up tonight.
hopefully i'll get some flats aswell.

The movement could be anything with 900 satellites in orbit anyone want to guess, aliens perhaps

Hi Tj, a lovely looking image. The high res is a beauty as well, nice subtle colours in the nebula.

Cheers

With 10 min. subs I'd think a satellite would've traveled a further distance than that.

Possibly a satellite in a Geostationary Orbit, they tend to occilate slightly so would leave a trail like you have.

Cheers

Excellent detail there. The MPCC gets rid of every bit of coma doesnt it?
Doign soem flat is the go for sure, however with a single object like the Triffid you can also use Gradient Xterminator photoshop plugin and just draw round it. That will flatten the background nicely

Thanks guys,
i'm still not exactly sure what it was moving through the frames, i went through my subs and i cant spot movement in any of those so its moving very slowly.

i've also quickly re-processed, i think this version looks a bit better.

high res: http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...o/triffid3.jpg

i prefer this version: http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...triffid3-1.jpg

ok, no more processing on this one.

I like it TJ, you have captured it very well, with plenty of detail and nice subtle colours, keep at it mate, your doing a fine job.

And the thing you have in the image, could be any piece of junk floating around up there, I've had a few of those myself, makes for an interesting image, I reckon.

thanks guys, its certainly a lot more enjoyable than hand guiding a dslr thats for sure.
how nice is it to start guiding then get an image sequence going and come in for a nice cuppa + watch a movie while your subs are being taken.
next up on my shopping list is a pier i think, oh and a Ha filter

The latter of the two most recent re-pro's is brilliant. Very well done!

Cant wait till I can set up an imaging run, then walk away and come back when she's done! that'll be pro!

Is the QHY series the bees knees in reguards to CCD imaging of DSO's (within a reasonable price range) How do they compare to using a DSLR?

Figured I should ask before I go and spend thousands of dollars...

Cheers, and once again, Well done mate. Top work (especially for a 2nd light!!!!!)

Alex.

the QHY8 is an excellent camera, no doubt about it.
you can check it out here:

Theo is a great guy and i'm sure if you had any questions he would fill you in on everything you wanted to know.

i dont really want to make the comparisons to a dslr myself but in my opinion, it absolutely flogs em.

Nice work TJ.

There appears to be a slight lack of colour dynamics to me, with the image appearing mostly kind of blue and red...? Is this form the UHC filter or the fact that it is a one shot colour chip..?

Still a very pleasing image

Mike

thanks Mike, the UHC-S filter tends to throw the colour balance a bit.

UHC filters tend to alter the color balance somewhat. Some brands do a better job than others, but in the end, there is some modification.

Below is 2 graphs, one is the Sony sensor, and the other is a UHC-S filter response.
You can see why there is some inbalance with color right of the bat..

Theo.

I was wondering whether your mystery object, could be an asteroid, given your imaging at 750mm and over a fair period of time, the movement is very small.
