A Tiny Ringtail

Hi Guys, well it was my ambition to put the modded 5D to the test and last night, was it, and although small I am very happy with the result.

The tracking didn't miss a beat and after a 200 percent crop the stars were still round.

Anyway enough of that, here we have the Ring Tail Galaxy, NGC 4038, and as I said, tiny, I'm pleased.

I actually went 9 minutes on the subs, brave move for me, as I'm usually not game to go past 5 or 6 minutes.

Here we have 12 exposures @ 9 minutes each, Total of 108 minutes, @ 400 ISO, through the Tak-106, and Modded 5D, auto guided with the Phillips Toucam, through the WO 8mm FD, on the G11.

Seeing, was good until 3am.

I know it is only small, but I have half cropped it, and quarter cropped it, the first being the full wide field.

Please be critical an pass on any suggestions.

Well done.

Nice capture Leon, well done. The third image is showing a great extension of the antennaes as well a some other faint fuzzy's.

A fine effort.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your comments, I think this is about the maximum I can get with the current set up, but that is OK, it is a tricky little bugger to capture at the best of times, but I'm happy with the results.

Nice image Leon. As Ric says - the antennae are certainly there. Good work.
