Defrosted M20

Hi guys

After regenerating the desiccant in the ST2000XCM I ventured out into the observatory last night .... the moon was very bright but it was cold, clear and still. This is one of my 2 targets from the session, I have yet to look at other pics of M8. I think this is my best Triffid so far, guiding was good and 15 of the 18 frames that I took were in focus and didn't have satelite trails. I don't know why 2 frames were slightly out of wack but there you go. The satelite crossed my path on the last shot of the night.

Anyway I hope you like the image.

p.s. Lines on bottom of image are from stacking, I left them in because I wanted the lowest star in the shot for composition. Crop is to show core of neb.

DETAILS :

75 minutes total exposure 15x300sec subs - dark subtracted
sensor temp -15c, self guided with internal guide chip
image acquired with CCDOPS, stacked in DSS, GradientXTerminator in PS5.5 with slight noise reduction/sharpening on background layer .... nothing else.

Skywatcher 200mm F5 Newt, EQ6 Pro, SBIG ST2000XCM CCD, Baader MPCC & UV/IR, IDAS LPS2

Back with vengeance now the frosting is gone Steve. Have to say that I don’t recall seeing such a composition on M20 like this before. The three bright stars along the bottom do add a certain character to the image. Uniformity or balance perhaps - not sure. Other facets of the image appear good. Well done.

Thanks Leon, if I'm feeling up to it I might try m16 tomorrow morning, around 1am onwards but I'm not sure I'll be awake after last night's 4am finish.

Cheers Jase, I tried a crop which didn't include that star and it didn't look as good so, as you say, compositional balance.

Thanks Gary

I might try and get rid of the ovelapping frame lines at the bottom although it will probably look worse for trying. Glad you like the image.
