Amazing Chilean Volcano pic...

Hello all...
Amazingly dramatic pic of the smoke plume from the Chilean volcano wrapped in lightning.

Amazing isn't it?
Saw it on the Australian web page - just a small pic, found a higher res version today.
Got to be one of the most dramatic natural world pictures I've seen in a long time.
Imagine being in the thick of it though!!!!

An awesome picture for sure Doug. You could almost say that the thing is alive.

Volcanic eruptions sure play havoc with the local weather patterns.

Cheers

red skys?

I have read that the dust from this eruption will be seen over Australia.

I wonder what it will do to viewing..

I wasn't into astronomy during the last big eruption (Indonesian volcano in the early 1990 I think), but I was flying between Melb. And Sydney each week and remember the blood red sunsets in the upper atmosphere for months.

does anybody remember if there was an decrease in sky quality?

I saw that pic as an interactive link somewhere - I'll try to find it. Meanwhile here is a link to a story and oics from the UK Guardian newspaper.
