Narrowband Eagles

Hi all, here are a couple of narrowband images of the Eagle Nebula. The first is processed in the Hubble palette of SHO while the second was done in HOS.

The details are as follows

LX200R 12" with DSI II Pro, f/3.3 FR and 13nm Ha, OIII & SII filters.

75 x 21.2 second subs taken in Envisage, combined in MaximDL and colour levels tweaked in Paint Shop Pro 10.

Hi Ric

Great images – it looks like a lot of hard work changing all those filters! I toggled between the two images and it was fascinating to see the differences between them.

On the 2nd image, the stars looked a little more enlarged – would that be a focusing issue?

I'm not sure why the second image is slightly enlarged, I think that it may have been something in the processing stage as the are both the same image.

The DSI II has a filter bar which slides across when you want to change filters. As my filters are 1.25" I just substituted the RGB filters for the narrowband filters so it's very quick and easy to change them and refocus.

Nice ones Ric.

They actually rotate slightly when you flick between the 2 images and I suspect the bloating appearance of stars is due to more red in the 2nd image .... might be wrong, just a thought.

Thanks guys for your comments, Steve I'll have a bit of a play with the red and see if it has an effect in reducing the bloat.

Looking good Ric. Are you on the wedge with this one? I dont think the stars are bigger, i think the red just makes them look bigger. I can see a bit of red fringing around the brighter stars though, not sure what causes this. Maybe it's the equiv of violet fringing for narrowband?

Thanks Andrew, had another good night again tonight and got some good data on the the Lagoon and Omega nebulas. I have a look at them after a good nights sleep though.
