SATURN - May 6th ... a little over-ambitious

Hi Guys,

Thought since I'd dug the scope out I'd give Saturn a go before it left and before the rings close up. When I setup the seeing looked pretty good, but by the time I started imaging was pretty average.

I was over-ambitious using the 4x powermate rather than my 2x barlow and once started couldn't be bothered changing. It seems that the 4x barlow is really pushing the light gathering capability of the 9.25 for Saturn hence greater gain and grain and less frames as I had to wind back to 15fps. The seeing wasn't really there to warrant it either.

All that aside, I've discovered that Saturn has rings

cheers,

Rob

Nevermind Rob, it's all part of the practise.. good to be back out amongst it anyway.

Keep at it and it's great to see more stuff from you again.

Nice try, Rob

Wow....a 4x Powermate on Saturn with the 9.25. Could you even see it on the preview screen?

It's dim enough through the 3x barlow!

Still...your colours look good and the image isn't overly dark.

Hmmm...after your comment in the other thread...you've got me thinking about the histogram...

Thanks heaps for posting this Rob. I love the way the shadow of the planet on the rings gets more pronounced further away from opposition.
