sweet image! very sharp and the colors are quite vibrant.... What kind of insect is that? looks sort of like a bee but the colors dont support that idea..

some sort of fly and a blue banded bee i believe.

No idea what the top fly is, but the blue-banded bee is here:

Nice photo Bob, we get those flys down this way as well big, slow and silly. I watched one fly into the garage wall about 5 times before it decided to go around, it sounded like someboy was throwing rocks at the garage.

I call them "hairy bum flies" for obvious reasons, no idea of their real name.
