Last night I imaged this comet with the 10 inch scope
Used short subs to avoid comet trailign due to its movement.
4x2 mins ISO 1600 1x5 mins ISO800. Hutech LPS filter, Baader MPCC coma corrector, modded 350D, 10 inch f5.6 newtonian. Crisp cold night. Comet has a strong central condensation. Aligned in Iris using this condensation as an alingment "star"
Scott
Great image Scott,
Myself and two others (Dave and Charlie) decided to tackle C/2007 W1 (Boattini) last night, (May 3 2008) came up nice and bright. Now shining at Mag 8.4
The image is a 5 min exposure at 1600iso taken with a Canon 350D Unmod.
Afocal with a 102mm F/5 Skywatcher piggybacked on my trusty 10" LX200gps. (Autoguided with a DSI)
Brightness and contrast adjusted in Photoshop and cropped.
I made the comet out visually at mag 7.0 on saturday night, its coming along quite nicely, its current trend according to my estimates its brightening at about 0.1 to 0.2 mag per day or two.
G'day Mike,
Enjoyed your talk last Thursday at the Wollongong Amateur Astronomy Club, Thanks for taking the time to come down and show us a couple of tricks. ( I was the one that said "You looked bigger on the telly" when you first arrived!)
Looking forward to seeing your images when their processed.
