First go with Skynyx on Jupiter

Well I imaged Jupiter for the first time with my new (and now dust free) Skynyx 2.0. Had to image between clouds in average conditions and using my new motorised filter wheel and new loptop.

It was a quick and dirty session. No change of focus between filters, no pre-sorting in NINOX, just 8 bit BMP's and under exposed histograms due to really poor transperancy all thown in Registax for processing.

The results are promising. Very low noise camera indeed.

Captured at 49fps with 1850 frames per filter. Approx. 550 frames stacked and processed in Registax for each channel, then into AstraImage and Photoshop.

Conditions are meant to be improving tommorow morning in Melbourne as the high comes over us so can't wait.

Definitely showing plenty of promise, if that's the result of a 'quick and dirty' run.

I like the overall 'feel' of this image. Nice and smooth.

Should serve you very well once you get everthing worked out and a patch of nice seeing.

PS - what processing did you perfrom in Astra Image? Which version are you using?

The colour is off and the middle is overexposed a bit, but looking very promising indeed. Nice and smooth.

I am using a trial version on AstraImage 2.5

Question: How much resolution do you use when you use the PRINTSCREEN function to transfer to photoshop with the trial version versus saving it as a high res file with a registered version?

I've actually not used Astra Image in a while. I didn't like the way it performed histogram stretching when converting to grey scale.

I also have the trial version. I wasn't even aware it was possible to adjust the resolution when using Prnt Scrn

When I used to use it...all I did was 1) Split colour panes 2) perform LR decon 3) recombine RGB. Then I'd take it into PS for final touches.

Does that 3-step process in Astra Image sound the same as yours?

I was meant to say how much resolution to you lose by using the trial version to get it into PS rather that saving a full res version,

and one more image taken 20 mins earlier with an improved processing routine and better colour balance. Helps when you have had a few hours sleep! Far better image I think.

There's still some work to do, but RGB imaging is a whole different ballgame to using the ToUcam. You're off to a great start.

Hi John, very nice image there!

If you're display is 24 bit (ie 8-8-8 RGB) then the printscreen function grabs the data to the same colour depth as , say, a jpeg or tiff image.
