2 Public Lectures

Hi everyone,

Once again the ANU Black Hole Society is holding some more public lectures. You can click on the following links to find out more:
Public Lecture 1 by Dr. Christine Charles on plasmas.
Public Lecture 2 by Prof. Harvey Butcher on the LOFAR and the SKA.

Hope to see you there.

Cheers,
Silvie

I could hope some day the Prof. Harvey might do a lecture in Sydney. I am very much interested to know more about the SKA. I recall reading about it back when i was in uni and back then they were designing these funky spherially shapped antennas that unlike Dish telescope had a much wider beam width. This meant you could look at the whole sky and record signals, instead of just one section with the narrower beam of the Dish. Fascinating design i think it was called a Luneburg lens or something similar. Not sure if they went ahead with that type or not.

You should definitely keep a lookout for any upcoming guest lectures in the Sydney area. Many lecturers/astronomers are often invited by other institutions and astronomy clubs to give a talk. I can definitely ask Harvey if he has any plans in the future in visiting Sydney so keep your eyes and ears open
